Nicole Smeltzer studied fine art at Florida State University and has continued her artistic education with various artists over the years, working in watercolor, acrylic, and oil. Her latest works in watercolor and acrylic focus on the flora and fauna of her home garden in York, Pennsylvania. Each painting starts as a complex drawing on paper or aquabord that builds on the repetition of shapes and patterns to create a composition that keeps the eye moving.

Watercolor paintings are typically mounted on cradled wood panel and finished with a UV protective archival varnish spray or with cold wax. Paintings sealed with a varnish may be dusted with a dry cloth. Paintings sealed with cold wax may be dusted with a slightly damp cloth. The pigments used in the paintings have an excellent resistance to UV light to prevent fading but should not be displayed in direct sun.
