About

Nicole Smeltzer studied fine art at Florida State University and has continued her artistic education with various artists over the years, working in watercolor, acrylic, and oil. Her recent works in watercolor and acrylic focus on imagery from her home and garden in York, Pennsylvania. She is influenced by the design and embroidery work of PA Dutch folk art. Heavily textured and layered, her works build on the repetition of shapes and patterns to create a composition that keeps the eye moving.

Watercolor paintings are typically mounted on cradled wood panel and finished with a UV protective archival varnish spray or with cold wax. Paintings sealed with a varnish may be dusted with a dry cloth. Paintings sealed with cold wax may be dusted with a slightly damp cloth. The pigments used in the paintings have an excellent resistance to UV light to prevent fading but should not be displayed in direct sun.
