On Monday, Mindy and I installed the paintings for my solo exhibition “In the Garden” at the gallery in the Outdoor Country Club (Mostly Mindy.)

Like many of my paintings, this one was done with a limited palette featuring one of my newest favorite colors, pyrrole orange. It makes such juicy reds and pinks and really stands out on its own as well. The cat is inspired by my own gray cat, Gigi Babycat, who insists on being involved in the art studio. I also really love painting strawberries in general and am hoping to design a repeat pattern with them in the future as a fabric design.

I just dropped off some paintings and prints for the Aviary IV Exhibit at Hive ArtSpace. This show is a must-see for bird-watchers (like myself). It will be on display through the end of July. Here are my paintings:

Most of my watercolor paintings begin by sketching out the composition on Arches watercolor paper, then painting with highly pigmented watercolors. After drying, I mount the paintings to a cradled wood panel using Golden Extra Heavy Gel Matte Medium. I then seal the watercolor painting with either cold wax medium or an acrylic spray varnish. After sealing, I cut away the overhang and lightly sand the edges, then prepare the painting to be hung for display.
